The Montréal Wood Convention is an event where sharing about the wood industry's new tendencies is among our principal targets. The Industry Seminar on Economy and Markets on April 19th will give you the most up-to-date information on the economy, markets, and key issues affecting the lumber industry and the wood products trade.
The day’s first speaker is Benjamin Tal, Managing Director, and Deputy Chief Economist CIBC Capital Markets Inc. Mr. Tal is well-known for his ground-breaking published research on topics such as labour market dynamics, real estate, credit markets, international trade, and business economic conditions.
Paul Jannke is a Principal of Forest Economic Advisors LLC, a premier source for North American wood products analysis and information. With 25 years of experience studying lumber markets and providing reliable, insightful forecasts, Paul has become the industry’s top economic analyst. We have asked Paul to especially walk us through his take on the evolution of the global trade flows in wood products.
What is the logic in the relationship between cash lumber and the lumber futures market? Alison Coughlin and Tom Crane, of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) will talk about the development of the futures market and the new truck-load-based contract. Greg Kuta and Alex Mead, brokers from Westline Capital and StoneX Financials respectively, will then try to demystify the apparent disconnect between the cash and futures market.
